Role purpose 

We are looking to recruit an Actuarial Assistant in Dublin to support our Finance department and the actuarial function of the NorthStandard group. This role is ideally suited to a candidate with a strong academic background who is motivated to progress through the actuarial exams. The role will require office attendance for 3 days each week.

What will you be doing?

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Reserving
    • Updating data and assumptions in the monthly reserve models
    • Updating quarterly reserve exhibits and reports, to help management decide on reserve levels
    • Updating quarterly reserve allocations and technical provisions, for providing to the finance team
  • Capital Model
    • Obtaining and analysing exposure, premiums, claims and reinsurance data for use in the capital model
    • Maintaining the capital model to allow detailed forecasting of future premiums and claims
    • Using the capital model to assist with risk profile calculations
  • Reinsurance
    • Using analytics and modelling to assess the suitability of reinsurance programmes
  • Underwriting
    • Using data and analytics to maintain and improve tools for pricing new risks
    • Providing cost factors to assist underwriters with winning and renewing contracts
  • Assistance in HoAF related tasks, collating content for writing opinions on:
    • Technical Provisions
    • Data
    • Reinsurance
    • Underwriting
    • ORSA

About you - Skills/Qualifications/Experience

Essential

  • Graduate with a 2:1 degree with high mathematical content
  • Proficient in use of Excel
  • Organized
  • Driven, efficient and proactive
  • Confident in use of IT
  • Communication skills

Desirable

  • Actuarial studies or experience
  • Exposure to other relevant software, such as R and Power BI
  • Familiarity with non-life reserving methodologies and concepts
