DESCRIPTION

Receives payments due the City and maintains related accounts; assists the public with questions regarding bills, fines, and tickets; performs related work as required.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Receives payments over the counter and by mail for taxes, utility bills, miscellaneous invoices, tickets, and fines; issues receipts and accounts for money received; counts, sorts and wraps money.
  • Reconciles, maintains, and assists in keeping registers, cashbooks, journals, or other auxiliary records according to established account classifications, posting entries and balancing against other records.
  • Uses computer to input data to be used in electronic data processing procedures and for routing accounting documents through proper channels.
  • Balances source documents; operates tabulating equipment in the recording of financial and account transactions.
  • Reviews billing documentation for accuracy; reroutes for corrections if necessary and arranges such documentation for posting.
  • Provides customer service as necessary by checking and verifying records and by answering questions both over the phone and in person.
  • Prepares name and address input forms for tax billings and mails to appropriate individuals; makes appropriate changes in file records.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS

  • High School Diploma or GED.

  • Six (6) months of experience involving customer service, data entry and/ or general office work.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience in utility billing and payment processing.

  • Experience using technician databases such as BS&A or comparable financial Management Information Systems (MIS) applications or programs.

Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to walk; use hands to handle or feel objects, tools or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.

Employees hired by the City must maintain residency as follows: Local 1600 - within 20 miles of the nearest boundary of the City of Flint.
