Salary: $125,000 - $145,000 per year A bit about us: Controller About the Role We are seeking a senior leader to join our Finance team as a Controller. Reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), this individual will oversee all accounting, budgeting, monthly and annual financial reporting, audit, and financial compliance functions. The Controller will directly supervise and develop a team of four accounting and finance professionals (including an Assistant Controller, Manager of Finance & Compliance, Compliance Accountant, and Accounts Payable Associate). This is a senior-level, primarily in-person position that ensures the financial health, regulatory compliance, and internal control integrity required to support large-scale, multi-entity neighborhood revitalization and real estate development initiatives. Job Details What You Will Be Doing Financial Management & Control: Oversee daily accounting operations, manage month-end and year-end close processes, and design/maintain robust internal control systems to safeguard organizational assets. Team Leadership: Direct, mentor, and develop a four-person finance and accounting staff, establishing performance metrics and strengthening internal systems for scalability. Compliance & Tax Oversight: Manage fund accounting, grant compliance, and property-level accounting across a multi-entity rental portfolio. Coordinate the preparation and timely filing of all tax returns, including annual Form 990s. Cash Flow & Budget Modeling: Monitor cash flow, prepare detailed cash forecasts, and support the CFO with multi-year budget modeling, projections, and financial scenario analysis. Stakeholder & Investor Relations: Partner with the CFO to manage individual and institutional investor relations, ensuring absolute transparency, and participate in Board and financial committee meetings. Process Automation: Establish efficient business processes and drive technology systems automation to support accurate reporting and informed, strategic decision-making. Key Requirements Experience: 7 years of progressively responsible accounting experience. Technical Accounting Knowledge: Deep knowledge of GAAP, including nonprofit fund accounting standards, revenue recognition rules for grants/contributions, and multi-entity consolidation. Financing & Tax Credits: Proven experience working with government financing programs and tax credits (e.g., LIHTC, NMTC, Historic tax credits). Software: Experience with Yardi financial management software is strongly preferred. Credentials: Bachelor’s degree is required; a CPA designation is preferred. Leadership Style: Strong collaborative, communication, and relationship-building skills with a track record of driving process automation.
