STAFF ACCOUNTANT II JOB DESCRIPTION
DEPARTMENT: Accounting

OCCUPATIONAL SUMMARY:
Perform a variety of specialized accounting duties including, but not limited to, the review, analysis, and reconciliation of assigned general ledger accounts. Serve as the organization's subject matter expert in the compilation, maintenance, and analyzes of retirement data and reporting. Serve as the organization's subject in the compilation, maintenance, and analyzes of the fixed asset system (FAS) and capital expenditure I depreciation expense reporting. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Monitor assigned general ledger accounts for compliance, reporting, and analysis purposes, making the necessary journal entries to produce accurate monthly financial statements. These accounts include, but are not limited to Foundation operating cash, escrow, inventories; fixed assets, other accounts payable, accrued expenses, intercompany funds, etc.
2. Assist in annual operating budget process, coordinate with leaders of assigned departments and make recommendations as needed.
3. Perform monthly variance analysis by comparing actual to budget expenditures and working with departments to ensure expenditures are properly coded and accounted for. Provide written explanations for variances, and participate in monthly variance reviews.
4. Prepare audit schedules and confinnation letters as required by auditors and provide documentations to support them, be able to justify applied accounting principles.
5. Serve as the subject matter expert for the organization's capital expenditures projects (arurnally approximately $6 million). Responsibilities include, but are not limited to leading annual capital budget process, preparing presentation to the Board, publishing final approved budget for the fiscal year, and providing five year depreciation forecast for operating and capital budgets
6. Serve as the subject matter expert on Plant, Prope1ty, and Equipment accounting by managing the organization's fixed asset system (FAS) to ensure that capital expenditures are tracked and depreciated according to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
7. Lead monthly capital expenditure meeting with project leaders to promote transparency and make sure that capital expenses are captured correctly, gather their input and create forecast. Report actual to budget variances to ensure projects stay within budget limits and/or cost overruns are repmted timely.
8. Serve as the subject matter expert for the organization's retirement plans to include, but no limted to maintaining an accurate accounting of the Retirement program by reviewing and verifying payroll repmts, detennining employee eligibility, working with Human Resources to rectify inaccuracies, corresponding with Plan Administrator on correct contribution amount for remittance, submitting wire request to the Controller, tracking and accruing the basic employer discretionary amount for eligible employees.
9. Review currently used processes and make recommendations for improvement.
10. Assist in other acconnting-related issues that arise in the department.
11. Respond promptly to customer inquiries and/or concerns
12. Communicate concerns or potential compliance issues to Controller quickly
13. Attend all mandatory in-services and training
14. Perform other related duties as incidental to the work described herein

15. Assist in carrying out the mission of Westminster-Canterbury in any way needed by cheerfully undertaking other assigned duties.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND OTHER SKILLS:
1. Bachelor Degree in Business Administration with concentration in accounting or finance.
2. Two years of computerized accounting experience, preferably in the health care field.
3. Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft applications such as Windows, Outlook, Excel, and Word.
4. Demonstrated advanced analytical skills required
5. Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and react quickly under stringent time frames to meet fixed deadlines.
6. Ability to use a ten key calculator and computer with dexterity.
7. Ability to communicate orally/verbally by phone and in person with residents, staff, vendors, etc.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
1. Sedentary work: must be able to perform computer work for six to eight hours per day, either standing or sitting.
2. Must be able to file and retrieve documents from filing cabinets and storage area.
3. Ability to lift, carry, and maneuver boxes I files weighing up to 25 pounds
4. Must be able to work hours that extend beyond normal business hours depending on operational needs.
