A Project Accountant at a growing construction firm is responsible for overseeing project financials, including budgeting, cost tracking, and forecasting to ensure projects remain on schedule and within budget. This role partners closely with project managers and leadership to manage billing, analyze variances, and support overall financial performance across multiple active jobs. Known for its hands-on approach, the organization manages projects from pre-construction through completion while maintaining high standards of quality and execution. Description Key responsibilites of the project accountant include: Manage day-to-day financial tracking for multiple construction projects, including job costing and expense allocation Prepare and maintain project budgets, forecasts, and detailed cost reports Analyze project financial performance and highlight variances against budget Support billing processes, including preparing invoices and monitoring collections Assist with month-end close activities such as journal entries and reconciliations Collaborate with project managers to align financial data with project progress and timelines Review contracts, change orders, and subcontractor agreements for accurate financial treatment Ensure compliance with internal accounting policies and construction industry standards Maintain organized and accurate project documentation for audits and reporting Provide financial insights and recommendations to improve project profitability Profile Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field 2-5 years of experience in accounting, preferably within construction or project-based environments Strong understanding of job costing, WIP (work-in-progress), and project financial reporting Proficiency with accounting software and strong Excel skills Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment Excellent analytical skills with the ability to identify trends and variances Strong communication skills for working with project managers and leadership Detail-oriented with a high degree of accuracy and organization Experience with billing processes, including AIA or progress billing, is a plus Self-motivated, proactive, and able to work both independently and collaboratively Job Offer Salary and benefits package!
